Giving Technology a Second Life: Supporting Education in Ghana

PRESS RELEASE – Paragraf CEO Named TechWorks Entrepreneur of the Year

At Paragraf, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s something we actively put into practice. Recently, we found a way to combine environmental responsibility with social impact by giving our retired IT equipment a new purpose.

Instead of sending old devices for disposal as WEEE waste, we decided to donate them to schools and support services in Ghana. These devices, while no longer fit for use within our business, can make a huge difference in classrooms where resources are limited.

Ross Gibbs, who only joined Paragraf as IT Technician in September this year, played a key role in making this possible. Alongside his usual responsibilities, Ross went above and beyond to ensure every device was ready for its new home. This included securely removing all company data and wiping the drives; reinstalling and configuring operating systems; and physically cleaning each device to ensure they were in great condition.

Once prepared, the equipment was handed over to Kwame Akuffo, Senior Test Technician at Paragraf, who works closely with schools and community support services in Ghana. Kwame will be taking the devices to Ghana in March next year, where they’ll help provide better learning opportunities for children who need them most.

What We Donated:

  • 15 laptops
  • 4 all-in-one desktop PCs
  • 3 monitors
  • 1 printer

This initiative is a fantastic example of how sustainability and social impact can go hand in hand. By repurposing technology that’s no longer fit-for-purpose at Paragraf, we’re reducing waste and supporting education in communities where resources are scarce.

Old tech doesn’t have to go to waste – it can change lives.
