For a business, finding the right employees with the necessary skills to fill the wide variety of roles that need to be filled in order to accomplish the company’s mission is a challenge very much like the one individual workers face when plotting their own career course.
Education and relevant experience are the key attributes employers seek from any prosepective employee. However, both require a great deal of time and money to aquire, and any new hire who has them will require a salary that reflects their investment. Also, for young people looking to break into an industry, lack of experience shouldn’t need to be a barrier to gaining the experience from which they will benefit later in their career.
Paragraf has developed apprenticeship and internship programs in order to satisfy our requirement for employees and to provide opportunity to young people hoping to work in the deep tech space who do not yet have the credentials of their more-seasoned colleagues.
Kamal Ellis-Hyman of Aim a Little Higher, an organisation dedicated to inspiring young people to prepare for enterring the workforce, was impressed enough by Paragraf’s apprenticeship and internship schemes that he recorded an episode of The Early Careers Show at our Somersham facility. In the episode, Kamal interviewed three of our employees who joined us through those schemes:
- Development Apprentice Jamie Raddon
- Data Science Apprentice Harry Dorken
- Business Developer Milan Poupinet
To get a further understanding of how the company values these programs, Kamal also spoke to Paragraf’s Talent Development Lead Rob Baker and Process Engineering Lead Jemma Allan.
Jamie, Harry and Milan all wrote blog entries (linked above) about their apprentice/intern experience, so please give those a read once you have watched the video.
